This job is for full-time controls systems owner at Marshall Steam Station in Terrell, NC. Marshall is a four-unit 2200MW steam station. Replacement natural gas generation for two units will start in 2029. Control system support is provided on an as needed basis to the Lincoln CT site.

This is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.

The controls system owner will work at the site, within the station's technical team and provide direct support to plant operations and maintenance, primarily in the form of troubleshooting, problem solving, and technical recommendations for assigned plant systems and equipment. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in capital improvement and maintenance projects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides subject matter technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems in area of expertise.

  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of moderate scope and complexity.

  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities across various groups.

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

  • Provides coaching and mentorship to fellow Engineers and Engineering Technologists.

Basic Requirements

  • Associates in Engineering Technology

  • Minimum 6 years related experience

  • In Lieu of associate's degree and 6 years related experience, HS Diploma / GED and 8 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting generating facilities (coal, natural gas, and simple cycle)

  • Experience in various DCS Platforms such as Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, etc

  • Experience with PLCs

  • Experience with various communication protocols such as MODBUS, TCP/IP, serial, etc

  • Experience with data links/interface devices such as MODBUS, PLCs, RTAC, TCP/IP, etc.

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Windows Servers.

  • Understanding of NERC Cyber requirements

  • Knowledge of various instrumentation

  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation malfunctions

  • Ability to review and implement controls logic changes

  • Ability to tune control loops

  • Understanding of network management, database management, etc.

  • Experience with datalink development and maintenance

  • Experience reading, interpreting, and using plant Process & Instrument Diagrams

  • Experience understanding of station processes

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions
