The Resources Business Group is composed of engineering teams from our Power, Waste, and Industrial Market Sector Business Classes, as well as Cross Sector and multidisciplinary teams who commonly support multiple programs. We have an opening for a new position in the North Carolina Area Resources Business Group: Business Class Manager. The Business Class Manager is responsible for operations of Business Class teams within the Area Business Group, including staff management, establishment of a culture of quality, assisting in business development, and partnering with national, regional, and Area Business Class Leads to drive technical execution, quality, and Professional Services initiatives. The Business Class Manager possesses and maintains a deep understanding of the breadth of HDRs services and how clients perceive their technical needs with respect to our services and has the ability to, in conjunction with the Business Group Manager, package HDR expertise as solutions to these problems. The Business Class Manager works with Section and Cross Sector and Technical Services Managers to fulfill complementary responsibilities as appropriate (i.e. delegate responsibilities to the lowest possible level of responsibility). Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Business Class staff development including career planning, hiring justification (lead process), utilization, staffing performance and adjustments providing forward looking input to Area Business Group Manager and Professional Services Lead, and champions efforts on identifying and assigning work - local and workshare.
- Serve as a main reviewer for normal project pre-contract, go/no go, fee proposal development and submittals, negotiations, contract signing, and project execution for Business Classes provided by the Area. Business Group Manager retains all responsibilities as set out in the MOA.
- Business Class staff management - managing budgets with focus on billability and coordinating with Professional Services Lead on balancing overhead budgets including training budgets, career development plans, and participation in internal practice groups and external industry or professional associations.
- Lead project reviews for projects managed by Business Class team members for scope, schedule, fee, profitability and contract and risk management
- Work with Business Group Manager, Professional Services Lead, and Market Sector Leads on allocating marketing budgets for client development and management and staff conference participation including presentations and attendance.
- Driving our culture of quality for the team activities and quality control are completed with documentation through a proactive project management system in partnership with Project Delivery Lead and working with the office QMS.
- Provide input to Business Group Manager and Professional Services Lead on recognition of Business Class staff and development and involvement in companywide programs and recognitions
- Support the recruitment, onboarding and retention of Business Class staff
- Provides hands-on mentoring and team participation to create a bridge Business Class staff and client requirements and ensure that appropriate leadership and supervision is provided on technical assignments.
- Work with Market Sector Leads and Cross Sector and Technical Services Manager on staff assignments for project management and lead technical roles on pursuits.
- Lead Business Class coordination with other Business Groups for projects and programs and to advance area and BGX strategic plan initiatives.
- Develop and implement Area Business Class team organization.
- Serve as Principal-in-Charge, Project Sponsor, and/or Project Manager for select projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer license
- Experience related to developing, executing, and monitoring implementation of strategic growth initiatives
- Understanding of the depth and breadth of HDR services and expertise
- Experience managing staff and career development activities
- Adapt at working with teams and creating an environment of cooperation and shared vision
- Excellent communication skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
