Job Summary


Under the direct supervision of our Medical Director, the Administrative Officer 2 position serves as the department's administrative support for the research and academic activities of our faculty. The position interacts with UCSFand ZSFG administrative units and interacts directly with department faculty to assist their research and academic needs. This may include assistance with IRB/CHR submissions, managing Material Transfer Agreements, transfer of pathology materials intended for research, database searches, and assisting faculty with purchasing and compliance issues.
The incumbant supplies academic support in the form of scheduling and meeting management, submission of academic forms and applications, assists with preparing publications and presentations and is assigned other projects as needed by the Department's Medical Director.

Duties also include administrative support for laboratory operations (ordering, protocol tracking, safety coordination, lab organization, equipment maintenance, and research administration support); collaborates with research staff to facilitate studies.

Experience in a UCSF academic, research administrative setting and familiarty with laboratory technics is strongly preferred. Familiarity with UCSF information, purchasing and accounting systems is helpful.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $29.05 - $53.50 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Anatomic Pathology at ZSFGH provides comprehensive surgical, cytology and autopsy services to ZSFGH and DPH affiliated clinics. The department's 5 staff pathologists provide a wide range of general and specialty pathology diagnostic services. The medical staff are supported by surgical, autopsy, histology and cytology laboratories in addition to an administrative support section for clinical and department activities. This support comprises 17 UCSF staff and 1 full time DPH morgue attendant with 5 part-time DPH morgue assistants

The department also serves as training site for a monthly rotation of 3 UCSF Anatomic Pathology residents and 1 UCSF Cytopathology Fellow.

In addition to clinical work, the department supports research projects and laboratories associated with our medical staff. Research interests include, but are not limited to lung, breast, gynecologic pathology and infectious disease.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree and 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience / training
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint is required
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience supporting research projects and activiites including, but not limited to CHR/IRB submission, purchasing, budgeting
  • Preparation of publications and presentations
  • Experience with Bearbuy, MyExpense, Advance, Photoshop
  • Experience with UCSF Academic requirements and processes
  • Experience with pre and post award research funding
  • Experience with Filemaker Pro
