Within Azure Data, the databases team builds andmaintainsMicrosoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

Azure PostgreSQL is a rapidly growing team inside Azure Data and Microsoft, and we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer. If you have experience building large-scale managed database cloud services and love the challenge of designing and deliveringcutting-edgetechnologies, this is the role for you. Our team is passionate about developing fault-tolerant, performant, self-managing services that can host mission-critical customerworkloads atmassive scale.This isa great opportunityto take on technical challenges, build solutions in the databases, distributedsystems space to improve overallavailability& reliabilityof a large-scale service. You will get the opportunity to work closely with PostgreSQL and OSS projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance solutions for Azure PostgreSQL.
  • Leads by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
  • Implement and enhance service monitoring, alerting, and auto-mitigation platforms using AI/ML-based solutions.
  • Ensure the service meets high standards of reliability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain customer-focused measurement and reporting platforms.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and ensure the service meets their expectations.
  • Oversee live site management and supportability tooling systems.
  • Ensure quick resolution of issues and continuous improvement of service health.
  • Ensure the service adheres to security and compliance standards.
  • Implement necessary measures to protect customer data and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with feature and component teams, customer support, leadership, and other partner teams.
  • Drive initiatives that improve the overall service quality and customer experience.
    Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies. Seek opportunities to innovate and improve the service.

Qualifications

Required/MinimumQualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Scienceor related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Abilityto meet Microsoft,customerand/or government security screening requirements arerequiredfor this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will berequiredto pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in technical design, problem-solving, and debugging.
  • 2+ years of experience with designing large system and seeing them to production
  • 2+ years of development experience on Linux and knowledge of Linux System internals.
  • Industry experience building and maintaining open-source software (OSS) and working with PostgreSQL
  • Proficient analytical skills with systematic and structured approaches to software design

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
