Job Title: Supervisor, Crating

Location: Richmond, VA

What we are looking for:

This position is primarily responsible for supervising the day/night shift operations, personnel and cost structure of our Manufacturing division. This position will develop and execute a production schedule covering approximately 80 people on the shift. The emphasis is upon being able to quickly identify opportunities, train the workforce and implement Lean Manufacturing for measurable improvements. Supervises department(s) that includes assigning work, facilitating team involvement, ensuring performance management processes are complete, scheduling work, ensuring needed equipment and material is purchased, and maintenance of equipment on shift.

What you will be responsible for in this role:

  • Works with all reports on the shift to ensure quality assurance. This includes manufacturing products to quality specifications and requirements for the department(s) and plants as well as measuring goodness of product on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborate with Shipping Manager to plan and complete shift goals and initiatives.
  • Prioritize shift workloads.
  • Direct and allocate labor as needed with and through Lead personnel.
  • Prioritize labor and material as needed to complete the production schedule.
  • Utilize computer system to verify and order materials as needed to complete the schedule confirm and execute work schedules, and review, change or update sales orders.
  • Counsel, coach, train and direct employees in proper safety methods, basic work requirements, and attention to detail as needed.
  • Manages and resolves employee issues through effective problem solving and mediation with assistance from Human Resources as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement by improving Quality, Delivery and Cost. Utilizing LEAN, TQM and other quality systems tools. Coaches on key manufacturing processes, reducing changeover and set up times, reducing scrap.
  • Interface with shipping, maintenance, and other manufacturing lines, materials, IT, HR, management and other groups as needed to complete assignments.
  • Enforce and implement company Policy, Safety Rules and Regulations. Generate reports in EXCEL, Word and email as requested.
  • Maintain head count to proper production schedule demand.
  • Conduct employee annual evaluations and reviews.
  • Coaches all reports on safety improvements, department inspections or audits and ensures 6-S is fully implemented

What are the basic qualifications?

  • Requires 4-6 years' experience in a corporate or manufacturing environment; previous experience supporting or engaging with manufacturing team.

What are the preferred qualifications?

  • Lean Manufacturing and or Six Sigma, APICS certification are a plus.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • Team oriented individuals who are flexible and adaptable to an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to plan and organize and to set priorities to meet deadlines and ensure customer satisfaction
