Project Manager - Field Engineering

Position Summary

The Project Manager will be responsible for executing capital projects for the field locations and manufacturing sites of Austin Powder Company (APC). This position will oversee and support project implementation, including involvement in design, bid process, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, reporting, and invoicing. The experienced Project Manager will work on projects through all phases, from inception through commissioning and startup. They will develop scopes for various types of projects in support of APC needs. Have accountability for leading projects through the different project development and execution stages. The Project Manager will focus on the front-end project scope development, options generation, preparation of cost estimates, and development of project execution plans.

Key Responsibilities and Duties



  • Ability to uphold the company's mission, vision, and values. Promote safety awareness in both work practices and company culture.
  • Meet with, interface with, and coordinate with the various stakeholders, including SHES, operations, engineering, quality, finance, and outside contractors, as needed.
  • Develop, track, and manage projects to ensure they are executed according to the project execution plan, completed on time, within quality parameters, and on budget.
  • Keeps management and all the stakeholders informed on all issues affecting project timeline and budget. Proactively develops plans to mitigate potential issues.
  • Assist with the procurement of equipment, materials, and services and the selection and hiring of subcontractors.
  • Develops project material identification, application, receipt, staging, and tracking systems.
  • Responsible for leading cross-functional design reviews, championing the "Management of Change" process for project changes, operational and hazard studies, and conducting pre-startup safety reviews.
  • Accountable for overall coordination during the project. Coordinate project deliverables and timing with the on-site managers, engineers, and outside contractors.
  • Ensures that project scope, documentation, drawings, etc., are developed to meet internal standards, good engineering practices, regulatory requirements and are maintained current during the project.
  • Ensures appropriate and timely reporting of project progress, including spending forecasts, schedule changes, and project closeout reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience



  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, with experience supervising project teams covering several multidiscipline projects simultaneously.
  • Four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or suitable work experience.
  • Must have experience in either explosive, chemical manufacturing, mining, quarrying, or other relevant industries.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities



  • Must maintain a professional relationship with other company employees, contractors, and customers. Experience working with outside vendors and outsourced contractors.
  • Ability to use discretion and sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive materials and information.
  • Proficient in cost estimating techniques and understanding of estimate accuracy at various project stages.
  • Working knowledge of PSM (process safety management) processes and systems is desired but not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite software (Word. Excel, Teams).
  • Experience with Primavera or other project management systems is desired but not required.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours based on business needs.
  • Project Management Professional accreditation is desired but not required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Work Environment and Physical Demands



  • This position supports Austin Powder Company locations in the United States and Canada.
  • Work is performed in both in a remote office setting and in field operations.
  • United States and Canada (Remote)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to company locations in the United States and Canada on a scheduled and unscheduled basis, approximately 30%
