WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Waukesha County's Land Resources Division is seeking an innovative, charismatic, and driven individual to join the team as a Recycling Specialist. The successful candidate will partner with local municipalities and community partners to promote solid waste management programs including recycling, composting, household hazardous waste, and waste reduction. The ideal candidate will enjoy public speaking, partnering on public relations and outreach, and managing projects to meet the needs of Waukesha County communities and residents.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and deliver educational programming and outreach on recycling and waste management.
  • Provide technical assistance and information on waste reduction and recycling to various stakeholders.
  • Assist in the review, development and continuous improvement of recycling and solid waste education programs.
  • Analyze data to assist in strategic and solid waste planning.
  • Provide constructive input for annual project and strategic planning.
  • Assist with residential, event and public space recycling programs.
  • Participate in local and Statewide organizations and initiatives.
  • Prepare content for newsletters, websites, and public events.
  • Build partnerships with regional and local agencies.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm (1/2-hour unpaid lunch) with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1. Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental education, solid waste management, or closely related field.

OR

2. Graduation from a recognized technical school with an associate degree in environmental education, solid waste management, or closely related field, plus two (2) years of professional work experience in:
* solid waste management or recycling programs
* program promotion, coordination, or marketing
* education, communications, public relations, or public administration, or closely related field.
