The purpose of Campus Health (CH) is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to eligible students, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health promotion program in the NC State University community The major function of the CH is that of providing outpatient care to the 34,000+ NC State students. Some level of medical care or advice is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May. Hours of service vary during the summer and during holidays and student breaks.

Essential Job Duties
The Certified Medical Assistant ( CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant ( RMA) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by supporting medical providers across Primary Care, Gynecology Services, and other assigned clinics. This position assists with clinical procedures, patient intake, and documentation while ensuring accurate medical records and efficient clinic flow. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse or advanced practice provider, the CMA/ RMA helps prepare patients for examinations, performs approved clinical tasks, maintains exam room readiness, and supports providers during patient visits.
Success in this role requires a strong commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and service excellence. The CMA/ RMA must communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, adapt to varying clinic needs, and demonstrate sensitivity to the expectations of a college-age patient population in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in immunization clinics, monitor expirations, preparation for accreditation and other compliance site visits.
  • Participate in fire, code blue and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Must report to work during Adverse Weather and related scenarios and for public health emergencies.

Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Necessary Special Qualification Requirements - Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency within scope of practice, including venipuncture, EKGs, injections, medication administration, wound care, nebulizer treatments, DME application, and ear irrigation
  • Working knowledge of electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and medical terminology with accurate data entry skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with varied patient populations
  • Ability to work collaboratively, float between clinics as assigned, and adapt to changing clinical priorities while maintaining high standards of care
  • Appreciation of needs of the college age population (patient expectations are very high).

Required License or Certification

  • Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant or as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Completed Medical Assistant training program that is accredited by the accrediting bureau of Health Education School (ABEHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) and must have certification by the American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA).
