Compensation
Senior Director level: Up to $215,000 base + 20% bonus
Emerging VP level: Up to $250,000 base + 30% bonus

Company Overview

A global apparel and consumer products organization is seeking a senior accounting leader to oversee U.S. accounting operations. The company is a well-established manufacturer and marketer of both private label and branded apparel products across men's, women's, and children's categories, with a significant retail and wholesale footprint.

The organization operates in a complex, high-volume environment supporting major national and global retailers, licensed brands, and owned brands. This role will be a key leadership position within the finance organization, partnering closely with executive leadership during a period of continued operational refinement and systems enhancement.

Position Summary

The Senior Director / VP of Accounting will lead all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance for the U.S. business. This role will oversee a multi-location accounting team, including a small team based in Pennsylvania, and will serve as a strategic partner to the CFO, COO, and broader finance leadership.

This position requires a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting expertise, deep experience in inventory-driven businesses, and the ability to operate effectively in a large, complex organization.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Leadership & Close

  • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and tax-related activities

  • Oversee monthly and semiannual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP

  • Review and approve journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations (payroll, accruals, inventory, reserves, variances)

  • Improve close efficiency, documentation, and controls

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules

  • Partner with FP&A to analyze actuals vs. forecast, identify variances, and communicate results to finance leadership

  • Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to senior management

Inventory, Tax & Compliance

  • Oversee inventory and AR reserves; continuously refine methodologies and controls

  • Manage sales & use tax, business licenses, registrations, property tax, and other compliance requirements

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting obligations

Treasury & Systems

  • Oversee treasury activities including cash flow management, borrowing base support, and approval of weekly wires and payments

  • Partner with IT and Finance to enhance ERP and reporting capabilities

  • Play a key role in the final stages of a SAP implementation, including process optimization and adoption

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage and mentor a distributed accounting team, including an Assistant Controller and staff based in Pennsylvania

  • Travel overnight once per month to the PA location to support team development and alignment

  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, IT, Operations, and external auditors

Qualifications
  • Active CPA required

  • 12+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience (flexible depending on level)

  • Background in retail, apparel, consumer products, or CPG strongly preferred

  • Strong experience with inventory accounting and sales & use tax

  • Large-company environment experience required

  • ERP experience required; SAP implementation or optimization experience highly preferred

  • Proven ability to lead teams, improve processes, and partner with executive leadership
