Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Assistant for the Africana Studies department within the School of Arts and Sciences. This position is needed for research in international and human rights to conduct a short-term project regarding the U.S. legal landscape in relation to Palestinian advocacy, more generally.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Identifies and compiles a list of all major politically-motivated 501(3) organizations in the United States coordinating, funding, and/or conducting offensive civil and human rights litigation, both friendly and oppositional.
  • Compares and contrast their legal and operational structures.
  • Researches novel legal theories advanced by such organizations, and their efficacy.
  • Enumerates and map out how oppositional organizations cause harm to activists.
  • Assess scope of harm associated with those tactics.
  • Identifies and compiles a list of allied civil rights lawyers and law firms, as well as relevant contact information.
  • Identifies attacks on 501(3) tax exempt status of organizations sympathetic to Palestinians.
  • Assists in drafting operational / policy documents to protect against exposure/scrutiny.

FLSA Nonexempt
Salary Details $20 - $25/hourly
