We're actively seeking a talented Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Shared Services team in Charlotte, NC.

Pacific Life is maturing its cloud platforms to support its digital transformation journey. We are looking for a senior level cloud engineer that will help us build the capabilities for the organization to leverage cloud services safely, securely, and efficiently at scale. This individual will be part of a team of highly skilled cloud engineers who will help in building the next generation of cloud platforms at Pacific Life. They will be integral to the design and implementation of core cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines for build and deploy, cloud governance platforms and controls, and the necessary automation and best-in-class tooling to support it. The individual will provide expert consultation and guidance to these key areas and help us build a world-class suite of cloud-enabled capabilities. The successful candidate will have proven experience in achieving these goals in a large and highly distributed enterprise organization. They should be a team player, great communicator, insatiable learner, and business-value oriented.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Deliver software programs, scripts, configuration files, and other programming artifacts as needed to implement solutions using the following tools (not exclusively): AWS, Azure, Terraform, Ansible, Azure DevOps Pipelines.

  • Ensure security of all assets in the cloud by integrating security best practices for shared secrets, key rotation, and other security requirements. Work with our corporate security team to enforce policies and deploy cloud security tools to protect and monitor access.

  • Work within an Agile team to prioritize and organize work efforts.

  • Monitoring system performance and recommend, execute, and automate corrective action.

  • Mentor others in the principles and best practices of cloud-native architecture and design, implementation strategies, and software development methodologies.

  • Ensure the end-to-end availability and performance of mission critical services, and build automation to prevent problem recurrence; automate response to all non-exceptional service conditions.

  • Participate in the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of tools and software; implementing policies and procedures.

  • Communicate complex details in a way that people can understand. Collaborate with people at all levels in the organization and ensuring all stakeholders are in the loop. Closely work with business stakeholders, support team and engineering teams in providing solutions.

  • Collaborate with other infrastructure, information security, application and support teams reviewing design and test plans. Work with architects and other engineers to determine potential gaps and alternative solutions.

  • Recognized as an expert within the organization both within and beyond own function. Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends process, product, or service improvements. Contributes to the development of functional strategy.

The experience you bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in an applicable cloud, infrastructure, or software engineering role.

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in building cloud infrastructure or cloud-native applications via automation. AWS and Azure experience are both required.

  • BS in Computer Science and/or Engineering, or equivalent experience and certifications

  • Experience working as part of a Scrum or Agile team.

  • Strong background in at least two of the following areas: compute & storage, network, security, software development, data analytics.

  • Adept in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Node.JS. Experience with bash and PowerShell as well as the command-line interface to at least one major cloud service, preferably AWS CLI.

  • Experience using a configuration management platform such as Chef, Ansible, or Puppet, preferably Chef.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders and with experience presenting to non-technical business audiences.

What will make you stand out:

  • Strongly Preferred: Experience writing Terraform modules.

  • Preferred: MS in Computer Science and/or Engineering

  • Preferred: AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$122,040.00 - $149,160.00
