Department of Medical Research Job Description
The histotechnologist processes tissues collected by the biobank for long term storage and sections and stains them for analysis by a pathologist. Using the same skillset, they process, section and stain samples for researcher clients. They also do this with patient diagnostic tissue samples for clinical trials (research studies testing treatments for patients) and for legal cases in which the University is required to provide slides. Process and embed tissue sections in paraffin or OCT, cut sections on microtome or cryostat, stain and mount slides. Prepare Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) , special stains, and IHC slides for analysis by pathologists and researchers , both manually and by automated equipment. Retrieve blocks, slides from pathology laboratories. Discuss procedures with clients; receive and distribute client samples and finished slides. Maintains equipment; includes recording temperatures and data, emptying waste & refilling chemical stocks. Documentation of tasks and sample locations. Shift
Monday - Friday Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Individuals who have qualified as a Histotechnologist by February 28, 1992 may substitute an associate's degree. Histotechnologist (ASCP-HTL) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Preferred Qualifications

Salary Range: $28.52 - $40.17 hourly Application Materials
