THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Water Program Specialist, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the surveillance, compliance, enforcement, data management, and operational evaluation elements of the Commonwealth's statewide SDW Program to ensure uniform program compliance. Work will involve interpreting assignments, rules, regulations, and procedures, and providing technical assistance to employees, federal and state agencies, professional organizations, and the public relating to the SDW Program.


In addition, you will serve as
the liaison with the Department of Health's toxicologists to identify and evaluate available risk assessment and health advisory information for regulated and unregulated contaminants in drinking water. You will also provide comprehensive training to field staff and the regulated community regarding new regulations and other technical topics to improve implementation of, and compliance with, the drinking water program. Effective communication is key, as you will be participating in a wide-range of meetings, conferences, hearings, and other public forums to explain a variety of existing and new state or federal regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position requires travel to training events, meetings, conferences, and regional offices.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of professional environmental protection experience; and a bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes three years of professional environmental protection experience.
