Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing leadership, management, and supervision for the Hazy Library Access Services unit. Manages circulation functions in the Alma Library Services Platform (LSP), course reserve collection, and direct customer services interactions. Manages the day-to-day access to collections, library operations, including scheduling service desks, facilities use and safety coordination. The incumbent serves as a member of the Library Management Team, conducts research consultations for students and faculty, and serves as a subject liaison to assigned academic departments.

Primary Job Functions

Management, Supervision, and Operations

  • Provides leadership, management, and planning for the Library Access Services unit.
  • Supervises three full-time Access Services staff including hiring, training, setting and evaluating performance objectives, and verifying timecards.
  • Oversee the supervision and comprehensive training program for 20+ student employees, including tutorials. Organize Student Employee Workshops each semester.
  • Participates in group-chat app for regular daily communication with Access Services staff and student employees.
  • Establishes and reviews Access Services goals and objectives based on the library strategic plan.
  • Facilitates excellent customer service and bilateral communications between staff and student employees across library service units.
  • Responsible for the circulation functions in the Library Services Platform, establishing written policies, procedures, and workflows for books, DVDs, laptops, and technology equipment at the Checkout Desk and Computer Commons Helpdesk.
  • Responsible for library operations including library hours, changes in the library calendar, staff schedules, and facilitating student space use.
  • Responsible for scheduling staff to ensure that services are delivered to clientele during all hours operation, 7 days a week, including adjustments for weekends, holidays, special events, and summer hours.
  • Contributes to the coverage of all library service points as needed, including absences.
  • Oversee compiling statistical data and monthly headcount reports for building use.
  • Implements user experience and user centered design.

Circulation Services and Course Reserve Collection

  • Administers all circulation functions, processing notices and reports, charging student accounts, maintaining patron records, and compiling statistical data in the Library Services Platform.
  • Comply with legal issues of FERPA, patron confidentiality, and data integrity.
  • Responsible for policies and procedures for the course reserve collection, including digital lending, copyright clearance, media digitization, and collaborating with the bookstore to provide textbooks.
  • Provides library and copyright policy interpretation. Stays current on copyright legislation impacting higher education.
  • Provides policy interpretation and diplomatically addresses and resolves patron complaints. Addresses suggestions from the Suggestion Box.

Library Facilities Use and Safety Coordination

  • Responsible for providing building oversight and library entry access to ensure the safety and security of the facility and its occupants.
  • Communicates library-building needs with Facilities Management, Safety, Custodial, and EagleCard Office.
  • Oversees work orders and follow up. Initiates emails and telephone calls relating to security incidents, door access and changes, HVAC, lighting, plumbing, building maintenance, and cleaning, so that safe and comfortable facilities are maintained.
  • Ensures compliance with American with Disabilities Act to provide accommodations to those who need assistance.
  • Coordinates Library safety and emergency preparedness with the Campus Safety Department and Environmental Health and Safety to provide a culture of safety.
  • Serves as Library Building Liaison with the Business Office and Safety Department.
  • Leads and organizes safety training programs for all full-time library employees and student workers.
  • Updates library emergency manual procedures and maintains inventory of emergency supplies.

Library Leadership and Administration

  • Serves as a member of the Library Management Team and contributes to overall library administration, strategic planning, assessment, business plans, budget, policy development and implementation, and outreach communications. Develop special projects and programs to address the changing needs of clientele and to provide advancement of library services and resources.
  • Participates in library budget preparation and administration. Forecasts budget requirements and submit business plan justifications for student wages, revenue from fines, operations and services, and new initiatives.
  • Develops and implements department-wide policies and procedures for the operations and services.
  • Compiles and analyzes statistical data, including headcount, and creates reports for Access Services to fulfill needs for building use, annual reports, strategic planning, continuous improvement assessment, accreditation requirements, and federal surveys.

Research Consultation

  • As a member of the Reference Team, consults and provides research assistance in-person and online. Participate in evening hours as scheduled.
  • Advises students, faculty, and staff on research and evaluation methods, search strategies, ethical use of information, and publication.
  • Collaborates with librarians by sharing expertise and knowledge of the curriculum and collections to support interdisciplinary research, scholarship and information resources.
  • Supports faculty and student research and scholarship across all phases of the research cycle and across all levels of research expertise to assist with publication and preservation of research.
  • Assist clientele with methods to create search strategies to locate, evaluate, and use information. Maintains current knowledge of educational trends, database search enhancements, and implements emerging technologies.

Collection Development and Subject Liaison

  • As a member of the Information Management Committee, responsible for collection development in subject areas to support the curriculum. Identifies, selects, deselects, reviews, and evaluates information resources.
  • Serves as a subject specialist liaison to assigned academic departments to cultivate and maintain an on-going channel of communication with faculty regarding curriculum, research projects, and student needs. Communicates library services and resources through creating newsletters, emails, and LibGuides.

Outreach and Engagement

  • Promotes, plans, and participates in library outreach activities and events by proactively initiating and maintaining regular and ongoing channels of communication with faculty, students, and staff, academic student support and student engagement departments.
  • Engages in reciprocal university and campus partnerships to advance shared strategic goals in support of student success and retention. Organizes and coordinates library engagement with campus events, such as new student orientation, OctoberWest, Open House, and Preview Day.
  • Provides direction to and participates in the Library Marketing Committee, developing promotional activities, programs and materials, and social media presence and content delivery to advocate library services and resources to the learning community. Develop and oversees budget for student services' marketing programs and projects.
  • Participates in the evaluation and updating of the library's website.
  • Serves on library, campus and university committees as appropriate.
  • Represents the university in scholarly and creative achievement contributions at conferences and seminars, and in the community. Attend conferences and workshops. Participate in professional associations.

Position may include other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Participate in evening hours rotations as scheduled.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master's degree in library science or informationstudies
  • 3 years professionalacademic library experience inmanagement,supervision,budgeting, and planning.
  • Professional experience in academic library. Minimum of 3 years' professional experience in management, budgeting and planning,
  • Experiencewith Library Services Platformcirculationpolicies and functions, reservecollections, and analytical reports.
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitmentto providingexceptionaland responsivecustomer serviceexperiencesto students,faculty,and staff.
  • Ability to work in a teamenvironment, sharing collegiality and collaboration skills.
