Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a Rail Department Manager to lead the Rail design team in our Bloomfield, NJ office. You will collaborate closely with our Rail Market Segment Leader and be responsible for overseeing a team performing structural calculations, preparing design and contract documents (including reports, engineer's estimates, and construction specifications), reviewing shop drawings, and providing technical support during the construction phase.

The team player will join Dewberry's national Transportation Service Line as part of growing Transit and Freight Rail Practice. Candidate must have a BS degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of rail bridge design experience. Knowledgeable of AREMA design standards and an understanding of signal system, OCS and traction power requirements.. Prior experience with local transportation agencies and clients such as MTA, LIRR, Metro North, NJ Transit, MBTA, Amtrak and Freight railroads is highly desirable.

Dewberry offers a comprehensive and very competitive package of insurance programs to regular full-time employees and their eligible dependents the first of the month following their date of hire. Responsibilities

    As a leader you'll be involved in staff professional development, growth, retention and recruiting, mentoring, training, quality management, project management practices.
  • Supervise and provide direction, guidance, and inspiration to a staff of project managers, engineers, and technicians.
  • Applies broad knowledge of railroad principles and practices to support design teams and junior engineers.
  • Provides a resource of railroad operational, and maintenance practices to design teams.
  • Supports preparation of written plans, reports and provides overall qc review of contract documents for compliance with AREMA, FTA, FRA requirements.


Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.PE License is required.
  • 15 years of experience, with a strong technical background in rail bridge design and maintenance.
  • Position requires competence preparing rail bridge structures designs. Understanding of related civil designs, including horizontal and vertical alignment, rail outage impacts and maintenance requirements for track and rail bridge structures.
  • Experience in transportation engineering, including inspection and/or design for freight rail or passenger transit facilities.
  • Experience in the following technical areas:
    • Rail bridge rehabilitation
    • New rail bridge design
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Local experience is highly preferred.
  • A willingness to engage in business development activities in order to meet growth objectives
  • Strong leadership talents and demonstrated success supervising people.

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $156,275 to $214,320 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly. These ranges are for Bloomfield, NJ only.
