The Quality Abstractor is responsible for collecting specific data elements from discharged records to accrue an aggregate database for use in quality review and utilization review and collecting data on patients for reporting to the applicable state registry.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 1. One (1) year of experience in healthcare related field OR One (1) year of experience in abstracting. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Two (2) years of experience in abstracting. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Abstracts medical records as outlined in abstract system. 2. Utilizes abstract system for accurate entry of data. 3. Abstracts data for CORE measures. 4. Participates in ongoing data quality studies. 5. Maintains and ensures accurate database. 6. Responsible for reporting database maintenance functions including preparing and analyzing reports. 7. Abstracts and reports data to the applicable state Department of Health Database following all rules and guidelines and meeting all regulatory deadlines. 8. Provides statistical reports upon request to manager/director. 9. Answers and assists hospital personnel and medical staff members with data collection and system guidelines. 10. Maintains daily productivity log. 11. Performs other duties as assigned.
