The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures

The mission of The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures is to educate, inspire, and delight people of all ages by collecting, displaying, and interpreting toys and miniatures that illuminate diverse narratives and cultural heritage. The Museum, located in Kansas City, Missouri, contains the world's largest collection of fine-scale miniatures and an expansive collection of historically significant toys from the late seventeenth century to the present.

Job Description

The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures is seeking two Learning and Engagement Interns for summer of 2026. The Learning and Engagement interns will help facilitate the Museum's summer programming for children and families, including summer camp, workshops, and drop-in activities.

The Learning and Engagement Interns must feel confident interacting with visitors of all ages and speaking in public. Interns will be provided with interpretive training and best museum education practices as part of the experience. Interns must always convey professionalism.

Shift

This is a temporary, non-benefit eligible part-time position.

TIME COMMITMENT:

10 weeks for approximately 28 hours per week.

Wednesday, May 27 - Friday, July 31, 2026.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

The first week will be reserved for training.

  • Required training and programming dates: May 27, 28, 29, June 12, June 26, July 13-17, and July 24, 2026.
  • Mondays: 12:30 - 4:30pm
  • Tuesdays - Fridays: 10:15am - 4:45pm
Preferred Qualifications

Ideal applicants will have at least completed their sophomore year in college. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and have demonstrated experience of public speaking and working with the public, especially children and families. Must be a self-starter with high professionalism, have exemplary problem-solving skills, and work well in a collaborative team environment. Students interested in education, art, museums, communications, psychology, history, and non-profit business are especially encouraged to apply.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Internship positions are paid $16.50 per hour (up to 264 hours total for the duration of the internship).

Provide resume, names and contact information for three references (at least one academic and one employer reference), and a cover letter by Tuesday, January 20, 2026, for priority consideration. Cover letter MUST state, "I am available to work the required dates." This position will remain open until filled.
