UMKC Technology Management Department on Volker Campus assigned to the Bloch School of Management.

Job Description

We are looking for a customer-focused Audiovisual Installation and Support Technician to join UMKC Information Services. In this role, you will be the go-to resource for ensuring a smooth and reliable experience with audiovisual (AV) technology during classes, meetings, and events. Your mission is to deliver exceptional service and support to faculty, staff, students, and community members by making sure AV systems work seamlessly when they need them most.

As an AV Installation and Support Technician, you will:

  • Provide responsive, professional technical support across multiple academic units.
  • Ensure AV equipment is installed, maintained, and ready for use, creating a positive experience for every user.
  • Collaborate closely with academic units and the Information Services team to anticipate needs and resolve issues quickly.
  • Act as a trusted partner who prioritizes clear communication and customer satisfaction in every interaction.

Core Job Accountabilities:

  • Installation, maintenance, and operation of AV systems.
  • Instructing Student, Faculty, Staff and the public on the safe and proper use of AV equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and adjust audiovisual equipment, including projectors, document cameras, microphones, public address systems and speakers.
  • Assisting and supervising repairs completed by internal or external technicians.
  • Participating in projects as needed, such as video production and lectern computer maintenance.
  • Operate specialized classroom and laboratory technology with technician assistance.
  • Regularly inspect classroom AV equipment and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Communicate progress and resolutions of technology issues to stakeholders.
  • Assist users in utilizing audiovisual equipment and systems.
  • Collaborate with full-time AV staff to develop documentation on equipment usage
  • Manage inventory of AV equipment
Minimum Qualifications

A high school education with two years specialized technical schooling in audiovisual or electrical equipment repair, installation, and servicing or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Minimum of two years' experience in audiovisual or electrical equipment repair and service is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the principles of electronics, ability to make repairs on audiovisual equipment, and operate equipment
  • Ability to operate and instruct others in the operation of audiovisual equipment
  • Superior non-verbal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Good organizational/prioritization skills
  • Ability to explain complex information and technologies in simple terms

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to manage technical requests professionally, even in stressful situations.
  • Capability to lift or maneuver objects up to 75 lb., with or without accommodation, and team lift up to 150 lb.
  • Possession of a current valid driver's license.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$20.00-$26.00 per hour commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
