SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant reports to the Director or designee. In accordance with established policies and procedures, provides both clinical and office administrative support for the practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sets up patient appointments, makes follow-up phone calls, tracks and notifies patients of missed appointments.
Registers patients, collects co-payments and processes appointment discharge according to established procedures. Prepares and sends financial statements to Patient Financial Services.
Ensures eligibility, authorization and referral for services.
Maintains the practice database, as well as patient records and all office correspondence.
Maintains inventory of medical and office supplies.
Performs initial patient interaction, recording vital signs, height, weight, etc., documenting information in patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
Sets up and cleans examination and procedure rooms and equipment.
Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. Maintains safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Participates in quality improvement processes and risk management activities.
Attends practice meetings.
Respects patient privacy and confidentiality. Completes mandatory annual training.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of Certification Medical Assistant Program required.
Ability to operate office equipment such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, and other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, letters, and medical records.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of out-patient physician medical office experience preferred. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and effective prioritization and organizational skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physician offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.

None.

Pay Range:

$17.77-$29.31
