Position Description

Position Overview:

The Communications Intern will support internal and external communications by assisting with content creation, social media, UConnect news posts, and event promotion. This remote role (8-10 hours per week) offers hands-on experience in strengthening UMC's internal engagement, external visibility, and brand consistency.

What You'll Do:

  1. Content Creation (30%, 2-3 hrs/week): Brainstorm and draft social media posts, UConnect posts, Thumbtack recruitment support, and UMCI.COM News+Views blogs (including copywriting and image design).
  2. Social Media Management (20%, 1.5-2 hrs/week): Set up the 2026 content calendar, monitor upcoming posts, develop boilerplate content for pre-scheduled posts, brainstorm ideas (project updates, employee features, company culture), and track/report engagement and competitors.
  3. Internal Communications (15%, 1-1.5 hrs/week): Draft newsletters, employee announcements, and maintain templates.
  4. Website, Digital Content Updates & SEO (10%, 1-1.5 hrs/week): Help keep project profiles and landing pages updated.

Learning Opportunities:

Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong writing and editing skills for blogs, posts, and newsletters.
  2. Basic graphic design or image editing ability.
  3. Familiarity with social media platforms and scheduling tools.
  4. Organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  5. Interest in communications, marketing, or digital media.
