Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Coordinator I for the Sociology department within the School of Arts and Sciences.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides administrative oversight to the SAS Criminal Justice Undergraduate Program and it's affiliate units by coordinating the administration of programs, projects, departmental operations, and/or processes, and management of the preparation and control of records, data, reports and documents.
  • Prioritizes work, resolves routine conflicts and issues, and prepares and implements administrative guidelines and procedures for the program.
  • Supports and supervision includes course scheduling and human resources/academic personnel related processes and transactions.
  • Creates and disseminates departmental communications, informational and marketing materials, and manages departmental listservs and databases.
  • Provides office administrative support to the Senior Department Administrator, and Criminal Justice Undergraduate Director.
  • Processes various administrative documents and data.
  • Completes other work consistent with a broad understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the administrative, academic, or research unit, and the tasks and responsibilities of the Program Coordinator in the achievement of unit goals.
  • Assists in basic unit-supporting research activities, perform some fiscal support functions, and/or serve as liaison within and outside unit.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions.
  • Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor.
  • Performs professional work that requires knowledge of general administrative/office management principles and practices and a good understanding, use, and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of departmental administration.
  • Cross-trained in select duties of the Sociology Undergraduate and Graduate Program Coordinator so as to ensure effective coordination and backup across positions and smooth department operation.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of academic faculty and student affairs, office administration, work organization and coordination.
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience in program coordination or administrative function, good communication skills, and strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • Must be able to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously and have a team-oriented, positive approach towards work.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Rutgers or other university applications (Cornerstone, Oracle, SAS portal, Concur, ROCS).
  • Previous work experience in a university environment.
  • Familiarity with working with faculty and students.
  • Understanding of undergraduate and graduate programs.

Equipment Utilized
  • Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook email, SIRS, BLUE, CSS, Degree Navigator, DICES, Sakai, Joomla, HCM payroll, RU Market Place and other systems and applications as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
