Assistant Professor of Counseling

POSITION SUMMARY. The Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Loras College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Counseling, with specialization in clinical mental health counseling and preferred licensure as a counselor. As a member of the School of Science & Health, the ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching a range of courses for the graduate counseling program, including Research and Program Evaluation, Assessment, Psychopathology, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Addictions, as well as courses the candidate's specialty. Candidates will be expected to teach summer courses (typically 4 weeks) on a rotating basis with other faculty and academically advise students. There may be opportunities to supervise research. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to provide service to the College and engage with scholarship in line with the Boyer Model.

The successful applicant will be one of the three core faculty in the program who will support the program's mission of developing versatile mental health counselors who are self-aware and constantly strive for ethical and multicultural competence to effectively contribute to the field in support of client well-being. As a member of the counseling faculty, the candidate will collaborate with other core faculty to maintain a quality training program for future mental health counselors.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. A doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from an accredited institution is required. A Ph.D. degree in related fields will be considered if the individual has been teaching in a counselor education program full-time prior to 2013. Additional qualifications include:

COMPENSATION. Commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience. SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND HEALTH. The School of Science and Health consists of 28 full-time faculty members and offers a variety of pre-professional and liberal arts undergraduate programs and graduate programs.

THE COLLEGE. Founded in 1839, Loras College is a Catholic, primarily undergraduate, institution that includes pre-professional and liberal arts programs, as well as several graduate programs. THE COMMUNITY. Loras College's 60-acre campus is located on one of Dubuque's highest bluffs that overlooks the Mississippi River at the junction of the states of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, about 3 hours west of Chicago. Dubuque's population is approximately 60,000 and its nineteenth-century architecture is woven into the limestone bluffs and provides a picturesque backdrop to the river landscape. Many residential and commercial areas have been designated as historical districts to preserve Dubuque's unique heritage. Its strong education base supports numerous cultural activities. In addition, there are sporting events, shopping facilities, schools, and houses of worship that are convenient to residents. The climate has marked seasons with a comfortable summer, cool spring and fall, and a winter that encourages a variety of sports that have in recent years attracted a growing tourism industry.
