Description

Brown and Caldwell (BC), a leading environmental engineering firm, is currently seeking a self-motivated Engineer with 0 to 3 years of experience to assist a regional utility company with right of way and easement acquisition. This position is based out of our El Paso, TX office.

Detailed Description:



  • Work closely with project managers and other team members of a regional utility company to execute work involving the right of way and easement acquisition for electric services, distribution and power lines, property acquisition, and land development.
  • Coordinate easement and property acquisition from the commencement of the project through the execution of documents.
  • Analyze legal land title information, and research data, and determine rights necessary for the construction of facilities.
  • Coordinate with internal project managers, management, and external clients.
  • Before a construction or maintenance project begins, review the project scope and use mapping software to understand what property will be affected. Determine ownership of the properties by accessing public records.
  • Establish a positive relationship with property owners and internal clients to communicate information clearly and answer questions.
  • Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications as part of engineering services during construction.
  • Conduct field work as necessary for various projects.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (drafters, designers, and other engineers).
  • Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time and on budget.
  • Utilize internal project management tools and resources.
  • Adhere to BC's QA/QC process.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/ Environmental Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Good map reading skills to interpret maps and plans, and property records.
  • Ability to research available databases and records for determining property ownership and securing records.
  • Good document management skills to handle a large number of documents and processes at all stages of a project.
  • Analyze alternative approaches and offer solutions that are agreeable to all involved.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to negotiate with property owners for the acquisition of land rights.
  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Self-starter, results-oriented, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and on large coordinated teams.
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork at various sites.
  • Knowledge of standard software including MS Office, Outlook, MathCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • EIT preferred.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

$58,000 -$79,000
