The Procedural Technician in any area performs the necessary technical duties that assist physicians and nurses in the provision of patient care according to the SGNA or AWHONN standards. Reprocessing Room- performs the necessary technical procedures in the reprocessing and maintenance of the equipment according to the manufacturer's Instructions for Use (IFU's).

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Provides assistance in proper patient position according to positioning guidelines as defined in policies and procedures.
2. Provides patient comfort during the procedure to meet the patient's needs.
3. Collects specimens and hands off to the circulating nurse with appropriate description and labeling.
4. Handles procedural equipment in a safe manner according to proper procedure or policy. Reports any malfunction to appropriate person.
5. Reprocesses and maintains equipment according to standards of infection control, policies/procedures, and manufacturer's IFU's.
6. Assists the provider during the procedure, as directed.
7. Responds appropriately, calmly and immediately in emergency situations.
8. Makes fiscally responsible actions with patient care needs, supplies and equipment.
9. Complies with all department and hospital policies and procedures.
10. Participates in and completes all appropriate Hospital and department specific training requirements.
11. Works or takes weekend, holiday or overnight call, as required by the position.
12. Meets established productivity standards.
13. Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.
14. Takes responsibility for ensuring that all work outcomes satisfy the UMass Memorial Health System True North.
15. The individual must support the mission, vision, and goals of HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital and serve as a role model for CARES values.
16. Adheres to change control processes.
17. Participates in cross training to optimize department resources.
18. Demonstrates excellent attendance and actively participates in a variety of meetings and training sessions as required.
19. Demonstrates a friendly, responsive, service-minded attitude to all internal and external customers.
20. Communicates ideas effectively. Shares information and keeps others properly informed. Gives, and is open to useful feedback.
21. Adheres to the HealthAlliance Hospital Code of Conduct and Behavior Standards and dress code.
22. Complies with established environment of care/safety policies and procedures and all health and safety requirements.
23. Maintains and fosters an organized, clean and safe work environment.

26. Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required or directed. Keeps current with hospital and unit changes by reading communication boards and/or books, bulletin boards, posted notices and reads and responds to e mails on a regular basis.
27. Practices cost containment and fiscal responsibility through the efficient use of supplies, equipment, time, etc.
28. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
29. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
30. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
31. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
32. Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
33. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

1. High school diploma
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Knowledge of medical terminology.
2. Knowledge of procedural equipment and instrumentation function, preferred.
3. Strong attention to detail.
4. Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.
Preferred:
1. Prior experience in a procedural unit or similar environment is strongly preferred.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
