About the Job

The Web Specialist is a member of the Arboretum Marketing & Communications team and is primarily responsible for editing and publishing content for the Arboretum's website and sending email marketing messages. This is a part time temporary role for the months of January, February, March and early April 2026 to manage web content during a leave. The role will involve 14-25 hours of work per week.

The schedule is flexible upon agreement between the employee and supervisor. The employee must be available several times per week to keep the website updated and it is preferred that they be available for team meetings on Thursday mornings.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Web Content (80%)

  • Receives draft content and requests related to Arboretum programs for web publication via Arboretum staff. Determines the best approach for publication based on knowledge of web usability and content best practices.
  • Ensures content aligns with brand standards and external stakeholder needs. Corrects grammar, punctuation, messaging and formatting errors utilizing the Arboretum's style guide.
  • Develops effective designs and information architecture for web pages - utilizing Arboretum photography and web layout best practices.
  • Manages the Drupal technology for our external website to meet program needs, resolving issues and developing solutions to align with new content needs. Uses Google Sites to edit our internal intranet.
  • Reviews the website for accessibility issues using Pope Tech and resolves content and technical issues.
  • Ensures web content is high quality, accessible, SEO friendly and up-to-date.

Email Marketing (10%)

  • Develops mass email messages using Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Ensures all messages align with brand/style guidelines, proper formatting and are accessible.
  • Imports list data from an external DRM source.

Collaboration (10%)

  • Manages web requests and projects using the Asana project management system.
  • Collaborates with team and Arboretum colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a related field plus two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills and ability to produce informational content aligned with the Arboretum's brand and audience needs.
  • Experience working in the Drupal 11 content management system or similar.
  • Ability to problem solve and identify solutions to technical or operational problems with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders, including people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing Drupal 11, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Google Sites.
  • Experience using web and email marketing systems at the University of Minnesota.
  • Experience using a project management system, like Asana.
  • A demonstrated interest and or passion for public gardens, nature, and the environment.
  • Experience as a part of a Marketing & Communications team.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
About the Department

The University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a community outreach unit of the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences. The Arboretum is located west of Minneapolis/St Paul and its 1,200 acres traverse the municipalities of Chaska, Chanhassen and Victoria. As a member of the American Public Garden Association and an accredited museum through the American Alliance of Museums, the Arboretum is a tremendous public asset. Visitors engage with gardens, collections, natural areas, a farm, research demonstrations, youth and adult education, events and exhibits.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $30.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
