Systems Engineering Group (SEG), an Astrion company, has openings for summer internships in data analysis, software development, CAD modeling, aerospace vehicle analysis, and trajectory analysis at our Columbia, Maryland office. Approximate 10-week program. Systems Engineering Group is a highly regarded provider of air and missile defense threat engineering and combat, radar, and missile systems engineering and analysis. Principal customers include the U.S. Navy, Missile Defense Agency, and aerospace industries. The internship will be from June 1st through August 7th 2026.

Interns in SEG's Vehicle Modeling Group will support development of intelligence-based analytical models and tools to characterize threat ballistic missile, cruise missile, and hypersonic vehicle performance. This may include supporting ongoing activities in the following areas:

  • Performing design studies and analysis investigating intelligence information, comparison to existing models and data, and technology trends.
  • Investigating missile characteristics including aerodynamics, mass properties, propulsion, guidance, and flight performance.
  • Generation and evaluation of digital trajectory data using six-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulation tools.
  • Using intelligence assessments to create and modify CAD models in support of other modeling and analysis efforts.
  • Performing research and augmenting toolsets to enhance modeling techniques and improve current processes.
  • Data analysis and visualizations.
  • Documentation and presentation of work to internal and external customers.
  • Interfacing with SEG management, program management, and government customers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD security clearance. US citizenship is required for eligibility as per the cognizant security agency and requirements of the programs supported in this role.
  • All candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Degree program in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Applied Math.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and write MATLAB, Python, or similar code to process and analyze data.
  • Experience with documentation and presentations via Microsoft Office products (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work in small teams or groups.
  • Ability to work independently with help as needed.
