Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Technical Writer Manager at Wyman Gordon Forgings is responsible for managing technical writers and certification personnel to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation throughout the product realization process for Turbine & Energy Products. This includes overseeing contract and specification reviews, managing Metallurgical Test Records (MTRs), and ensuring the integrity of final certification packages. The role is critical in maintaining compliance with customer requirements and industry standards while driving efficiency and quality in documentation processes.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Lead and manage a team of technical writers and certification specialists.

* Oversee contract and specification reviews to ensure clarity and compliance.

* Manage the creation, review, and approval of Metallurgical Test Records (MTRs) and final certification packages.

* Ensure documentation meets customer requirements, regulatory standards, and internal quality systems.

* Develop and maintain document control processes, templates, and guidelines.

* Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to gather accurate technical data.

* Implement continuous improvement initiatives for documentation workflows.

* Train and mentor team members on technical writing best practices and compliance requirements.

* Support audits and customer reviews related to documentation and certification.

* Monitor and report on documentation metrics and team performance.

* Perform Internal Audits to ensure compliance to Customer requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS:

* Strong analytical and statistical analysis skills.

* Strong leadership and team management skills.

* Mechanical Testing knowledge

* Knowledge of ISO/API standards and quality management systems.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems.

* Strong organizational and communication skills.

* Ability to interpret complex technical specifications and translate them into clear documentation.

EDUCATION:

* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field experience; Metallurgical concentration is a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

* Minimum 5 years of technical experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

* Minimum 5 years of experience in quality management systems.

* Experience managing certification processes and compliance documentation.

* Familiarity with regulatory and customer-driven requirements.

* Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS:

* This position is based in Houston, TX, and requires a hands-on, team-oriented approach within a lean, metric-driven environment.

* The role involves interaction with cross-functional teams and upper management to ensure quality excellence and continuous improvement.

Hours: 7:30 am - 4:30pm M-F, occasional weekends.
