Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll join our R&D team to design and develop innovative software solutions for Rockwell Automation's control systems. This role goes beyond programming-you'll work with the full software development lifecycle, seeing the bigger system picture and contributing to products that drive customer success. You'll prototype new functionality, build proof-of-concept applications, and collaborate in a team environment using modern engineering practices and technologies. Along the way, you'll gain exposure to industrial automation, remote monitoring, virtual design, simulation, and cloud computing. We're looking for a creative, technical engineer who thrives in a dynamic setting with opportunities for growth and impact.

This role with work a hybrid schedule at our Mayfield Heights, OH or Milwaukee, WI office and will report to the Manager, Software Engineering.


Your Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to architectural and system design, balancing requirements, speed, cost, and reliability.
  • Develop, document, and test code following established processes; debug and resolve issues across subsystems.
  • Collaborate on integration efforts to deliver complete, high-quality products.
  • Participate in reviews of designs, code, test cases, and documentation.
  • Maintain and enhance assigned software subsystems.
  • Provide clear work estimates and status updates; communicate priorities effectively.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and share knowledge within the team.
  • Explore new tools and standards; serve as a resource in areas of expertise.
  • Lead small to mid-sized teams or mentor peers as needed.
  • Drive improvements in development practices and tools.
  • Communicate design concepts clearly and learn complex control system principles.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment built on respect, openness, and teamwork.

The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in a software product development environment.
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description.
  • Proven application in at least two of the following languages TypeScript/JavaScript, C++, C#, Python, Java, Rust.
  • Proven application of data structures and algorithms.
  • Proven application of object-oriented designs.
  • Knowledge of multithreading, concurrent system, real-time systems, industrial automation, and simulation systems.
  • Experience with modern database technologies and query languages.
  • Working knowledge of Rust programming language.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps processes.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing and Microsoft Azure technology or related system.
