Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not intended to be an all inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers on shift engaged in unloading, stacking, reclaiming, crushing, blending, and delivering coal to customer per specifications.
  • Monitors and directs work activities within areas of responsibility, ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and that areas of responsibility are maintained in a neat and orderly condition. Ensures compliance with company plant and safety rules.
  • Plans operations, establishes priorities and sequences for shift activities. Coordinates production activities with other departments and personnel as necessary to maximize operations in a safe and environmentally compliant manner, within budget and according to customer needs.
  • Participates in shift change activities including but not limited to communicating problems, issues, etc. with appropriate personnel, keeping supervisor apprised of such, completing appropriate documentation, logs, etc. maintaining responsibility for operating area until properly relieved of duty by shift personnel or other authorized personnel.
  • Trains and coaches workers on Standard Operating Procedure development, Job Safety Analyses, safe work practices, and hazard recognition. Coaches and encourages professional development and growth of skills and abilities.
  • Follows production sequence and schedule, working at a pace to maintain or exceed production requirements within safety/health, environmental, and quality requirements; notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel of any deviations, or issues in a timely manner.
  • Participate in incident investigations as required, including reporting incidents to appropriate personnel, completing required documentation, recommending and implementing corrective actions, and communicating findings as appropriate.
  • Works effectively with Team Members at all levels of the organization within areas of responsibility, consulting with HR, Department Manager, corporate resources or other parties as necessary
  • Maintains compliance with appropriate federal, State and local safety and/or environmental regulations, reports and notifies appropriate plant personnel of any deviations per established standards; maintains appropriate records and reports as required by regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Education/Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 2-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications (required): VA Surface Mining certification; Prep Plant Foreman certification
  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency with Microsoft Office. Suite - Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Shift Leader Responsibilities: Directly supervises 8 team members within areas of responsibility.
