FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network's national content.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Director of Engineering Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the Director of Engineering will oversee all aspects of broadcast, production, transmission, digital, and facility-related engineering operations. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise and plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence across a 24/7 live news and content environment. What You'll Do Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineering professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Partner with the Vice President of Engineering, Production leadership, and other departments to support station objectives and long-term technical initiatives. Serve as a key technical leader and escalation point for critical operational and maintenance issues. Maintain on-call availability and provide leadership during emergency situations impacting station operations. Develop engineering priorities, workflows, and operational procedures to support a 24/7 broadcast environment. Technical Oversight Provide hands-on support and technical guidance for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of station equipment and systems. Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Support live remote productions and special broadcasts utilizing a variety of transmission and delivery technologies. Monitor and maintain facility-related systems, including HVAC, electrical, and other critical infrastructure. Strategic Planning & Innovation Evaluate emerging technologies and develop recommendations that support operational efficiency, innovation, and future growth. Assist in developing and managing capital and operating budgets. Oversee procurement processes for engineering equipment, software, and services. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for workflow improvements and technology enhancements. What You'll Bring Demonstrated leadership experience managing projects, teams, or technical operations. Strong understanding of broadcast systems, transmission technologies, and production workflows. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to operational emergencies. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree and/or industry certifications are a plus. Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), networking, cybersecurity, or related technical certifications preferred. Experience working in a union environment. Experience managing engineering budgets and capital projects. Technical Experience Candidates should have experience supporting and troubleshooting a variety of broadcast technologies, including: Transmission systems, including GatesAir and Rohde & Schwarz platforms Studio production systems and robotic camera technologies, including Vinten robotics Control room automation systems, including Sony ELC Graphics platforms, including Chyron Master control automation systems, including Grass Valley ITX and Evertz Mediator Newsroom computer systems, including iNews Media asset management platforms, including Bitcentral Additional expertise should include: IP-based video and audio workflows SMPTE 2110 environments HDR production workflows RF systems and transmission technologies Networking infrastructure and protocols Cybersecurity best practices Live remote broadcast technologies and distribution methods Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in equipment rooms, studios, and transmitter facilities as needed. Ability to travel to transmitter, translator, and remote production sites when required. Schedule Availability for on-call responsibilities and emergency response. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $90,000.00-110,000.00 annually.
