Food Service Workers - 6071
Starting rate of pay: $20.00/hr

Working Conditions Work at the Itasca Biological Station located in Itasca State Park, a relatively remote, rural environment, approximately 220 miles north of Minneapolis. The work involves some lifting (up to 50 pounds) and standing up to four hours at a time. Weekend work will be required. Housing is not provided on the Station for this position.

One food service worker position is part time and seasonal from May through September. If need be, position can end in August as well. Hours of employment are dependent upon station program needs, but we expect an average of approximately 35-40 hours per week. This position is eligible for benefits.

One food service worker position is also part time and seasonal, but we expect an average of approximately 25 hours per week from the end of June through the end of July. Additional hours may be available from May to September as needed with large groups, dependent upon station program needs. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Job duties:

30% Dish washing and laundry

* Wash and dry dishes and cookware according to standard procedures

* Put away all dishes and supplies following meals

* Launder kitchen towels and other linens used in meal service

25% Assist Cooks with Food Preparation

* Process hot and cold foods using some mechanical equipment (i.e., toasters, etc.)

* Take food and supply items to storage areas and properly store them following set procedures

* Collect food and supplies needed prior to actual meal service

* Prepare supply items in advance of actual assembly (i.e., wrap silverware, line trays, fill dispensers, etc.)

* Assemble and portion food items for tray/meal service

* Follow established food handling procedures

* Follow established safety procedures

25% Clean up kitchen and eating areas

* Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in work area (i.e., cleans work surfaces, wipes up spills)

* Puts away supplies 5% Stock and Inventory

* Monitor food stock and assist with taking inventory of food and kitchen supplies

* Communicate shortages in food and/or supplies within adequate time for restocking prior to meal period

15% Set up tables

* Clean and prepare tables for meal service as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED and at least 6 months of relevant experience or education in quantity food production. Ability to follow established food handling procedures. Able to read, write and interpret the English language. Perform simple math calculations involving adjusting recipes to various sized groups. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion and stand continuously for up to four hours at a time. Willing to attend ongoing training sessions. Willing to work variable hours and weekends, involving part-time work from May through September.

Preferred Qualifications
Basic computer knowledge including the ability to use a WEB browser and communicate via Email at the workplace. Possess good communication skills. Ability to work well with a diverse team of Station employees. Food Safe or similar training helpful.
