Job Summary


Uses professional concepts to apply organization policies and procedures to oversee a variety of ongoing administrative operational issues. Administers defined operational program. Analyzes and resolves operational problems of moderate scope. The Education Administrator (EA) is the core administrator of the IGHS Education Team. This role is responsible for executing an array of administrative and operational functions that ensure that the day-to-day needs of the IGHS Education Team are run with efficiency.

Core functions include managing program administration and operational activities of existing and future graduate global health programs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Academic calendar and course scheduling including classroom reservations
  • Curriculum planning including work with the CLE and Canvas learning platforms
  • Student and alumni database administration and tracking of alumni and outcomes
  • Administrative support for admissions and recruitment processes
  • Event planning (student orientations, capstone exam presentations, graduations)
  • Organization of MSc capstone research travel and reimbursements
  • Assistance with the development of new educational approaches and initiatives (global health certificates, workshops, a la carte course offerings, etc.)

The EA will work under direction of the Director of Education, Director of the MSc Program, and Director of the PhD Program in Global Health Sciences.

The EA will have experience in an administrative and academic environment, and have experience with databases, documentation, and communications. The EA will have excellent demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to serve as the communicator between multiple program participants. The person in this position is the administrative and staff resource for program operations and should demonstrate leadership even in roles that are not supervisory.

This position is an excellent opportunity to learn how educational programs are organized, run, and evaluated. Interest in the field of global health and educational program building is preferred.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $29.05 - $53.50 (Hourly Rate).

UCSF's Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) is dedicated to improving health and reducing the burden of disease in the world's most vulnerable populations. IGHS integrates UCSF expertise in all of the health, social, and biological sciences, and focuses that expertise on pressing issues in global health. IGHS works with partners in countries throughout the world to achieve these aims. IGHS seeks to improve health worldwide, especially in developing countries, through research that informs policy.

The IGHS Education Team oversees and is responsible for educational and training offerings within IGHS; the primary programs are the MSc and the PhD in Global Health Sciences; these programs are currently expanding to include global health workshops, certificates, and a la carte course offerings.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 1+ years directly related experience
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong skills in short term planning, analysis and problem-solving and customer service.
