Brentwood Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a dynamic and talented ACTIVITY AIDE/COORDINATOR (PRN) for varied shifts.

The Mental Health Technician assists in coordinating essential program activities such as activity groups and specialty groups. Works closely with all other clinical staff (Activity Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses) To conduct various process and specialty groups within the patient program. Plays an integral part of assuring that the patient program schedule is carried out as planned by the staff team. Performs various duties assisting staff nurses in the psychiatric and physical treatment and care of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the hospital. Interacts closely with patients remaining engaged in the various activities and events that patients experience throughout the treatment day. Interacts with patients in a therapeutic manner at all times and assists other staff to also maintain appropriate boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures patients are consistently monitored in the proper location for the duration of activities.
  • Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive recreation therapy program to meet the physical, social, cultural, and recreational needs of patients
  • Planning and organizing activity therapy, evaluating patients' abilities and behaviors, along with participating in interdisciplinary treatment teams

Skills and Competencies

  • Previous experience in a mental health hospital setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective patient interaction.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to exhibit empathy, respect and compassion that involve understanding and care for patients.

Qualifications

Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent. 1-2 years of experience working with children/adolescents, geriatric, and/or adults with emotional, behavioral, and/or developmental disabilities required. CPR and de-escalation certification required. *Certified Lifeguard is a bonus. *

Preferred: Bachelors degree in related field preferred.
