Location: Remote/virtual - Must live and work in the state of Michigan

Some in-state travel and in-person work requirements



Purpose: This position will support the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Section in the coordination special projects related to multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs), with a particular focus on projects related to Candida auris. This position will engage with academic partners, answer technical data questions, aid in data translation and idea generation, and function as a liaison with technical staff at MDHHS. Working alongside HAI Section and Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Division leadership on project direction, this position will help evaluate and tailor public health interventions based on model projections and incorporate those interventions throughout Michigan's strategic response to MDROs. Ultimately, this position will support Michigan's work at the forefront of MDRO detection, containment, response, and prevention.



Duties and Responsibilities:
* Uses public health modeling outputs in developing, applying, and improving MDRO prevention and response strategies in novel ways in a dynamic public health environment.
* Consults and provides technical assistance to academic partners and the MDHHS HAI Section, answers technical data questions, provides data translation, and aids in idea generation.
* Liaise with academic partners on behalf of MDHHS HAI subject matter experts to ensure timely completion of projects and meet expected deadlines.
* Work with MDHHS EID Leadership and the HAI Section to determine and evaluate shifts in public health strategies based on model projections.
* Incorporate public health strategic changes suggested by modeling data into Michigan's strategic response to MDROs.
* Facilitate collaborations and foster communications among external partners.
* Develop educational materials, newsletters, reports, guidance documents, and toolkits to enhance and improve public awareness of HAI/MDROs and confidence in prevention measures.
* Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
* Performs other HAI-related work as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Possession of a master's degree in public health, health communication, health services administration, population and health sciences, health policy or a public health related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, health economics; master's degree in education; or a master's degree in public or business administration with a health care concentration



Experience: Two years of professional experience as a consultant in a field of public health equivalent to a Public Health Consultant, including one year equivalent to a Public Health Consultant 10.



Important Skills and Characteristics:



  • Knowledge of the transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of infection prevention and control.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention applied to healthcare-associated infections.
  • Knowledge of the application of computer models to the analysis and management of epidemiological data.
  • Knowledge of how to apply model predictions to strategic applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to learn and then translate nuanced healthcare exposure data, relay complex concepts and speak on behalf of subject-matter experts (SMEs).
  • Ability to strategically think, organize and translate concepts into response goals.
  • Ability to organize raw data in forms suitable for epidemiological analysis and interpretation by SMEs and leadership.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, guidance documents, toolkits, and papers related to the work.
  • Ability to maintain records and conduct correspondence related to the work.
  • Ability to design health resources to promote and implement public health initiatives.
  • Ability to coordinate and convene partners to enhance public health response.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements:Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <25# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 50% to 75% of the time. Standard office environment. Requires valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position. Frequent deadlines. In-state and out-of-state travel for related meetings.
