Responsibilities

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

Job Duties (not an inclusive list):

  • To assist the evalutation of the student progress, the tracking of the the academic performance, the gathering of weekly and monthly data reports, and to coordinate report cards, progress goals, and other feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
  • To work collaboratively and strategically with the multidisciplinary team promoting quality treatment, individualized education and measurable outcomes, representing the education department in various treatment team meetings.
  • To provide developmentally appropriate classroom instruction to assigned students according to IEP/IIP goals and objectives, student strengths and learning preferences, research-supported methods and techniques, and Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center recommended practices.
  • To implement the Behavior Management Plan at Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center, to assess and document students' behavior progress (or lack of progress), to adjust behavioral stategies as needed and in consultation with the treatment team in order to maximize studens' behavioral success.
  • To assess students' academic achievement continually through a variety of methods, to document progress (or lack of progress), and to adjust instructional planning as needed to maximize student achievement.
  • To participate in professional develpment activities including on-site training and relevant off-site classes, workshops, etc.
  • To display a high degree of professionalism in all activities and interactions with students, staff, parents, agency personnel, community members, etc., implement the UHS model of Service Excellence.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with student records, clinical records in regard to education, IEP's, IIP's and other documentation of educational services, and treatment progression.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum Associate's Degree or equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: Two or more years of experience working with children and/or adolescents in structured setings. Experience in working in healthcare documentation and client relations preferred. Must possess knowledge of and ability to implement behavioral management strategies and de-escalation techniques; good written and verbal communication skills and good interpresonal skills.
