The Compounding Technician 3 position is an integral member of the healthcare team and is responsible for performing non-sterile compounding and ensuring our non-sterile compounding services meet the demands of our patients' needs in a timely manner, ensuring compounding supplies and inventory are stocked and maintained, and assisting in maintaining compliance with UCDH policies and procedures, State and Federal laws and regulations including the 340B Drug Pricing Program and the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, and accrediting bodies. Outpatient compounding services include non-sterile hazardous and non-hazardous compounds. The Technician 3 also provides drug dispensing and distribution activities, maintaining inventory, prescription billing, processing payments for prescriptions, tracking deliveries and training other personnel as assigned. This position fosters excellent intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships and provides quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to all patients.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.
- California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
- Minimum education satisfied through attainment of the required license/certification
- 2 years of recent work experience in non-sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications
- 2 years of recent work experience in an Outpatient Pharmacy or Specialty Pharmacy as a licensed Pharmacy Technician
- Understanding of the regulations and safe handling procedures of hazardous drugs, including potential manipulation when required.
- Working knowledge of current third-party insurances, Medicare Part B and California State Medicaid
- Working knowledge of billing and submitting authorization requests for State funded insurance programs
- Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations
- Ability to operate Pharmacy Information System and other computer programs
- Knowledge of the USP 795
- Working knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification or advanced training in non-sterile compounding
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
- Working knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third-party billing systems
- Ability to recognize situations that exceed technician authority and ability and must be referred to a pharmacist for resolution
- Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem, and to independently create and implement viable solutions and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved
- Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times
- Ability to impart knowledge and develop the skills of students participating in training programs, as well as new hires and staff seeking additional opportunities
- Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
Department Specific Job Scope
UCDH Outpatient pharmacies emphasize patient care in Hospital Discharge, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Ambulatory Care, Employee Health and Specialty Pharmacy. Our pharmacies are responsible for screening prescriptions for appropriateness and making interventions, preparing medications for dispensing, distribution activities, providing immunizations and providing patient consultations. Staff are responsible for appropriate prescription billing to multiple payers including third party insurances, Medicaid, Medicare D and Medicare B plans. Our pharmacies maintain compliance with multiple accrediting bodies and with State and Federal Laws and Regulations.
