Visual Fields Technician- Dean McGee Eye Institute - Oklahoma Health Center

The Visual Fields Technician performs visual field testing to map a patient's central and peripheral vision to identify blind spots or other vision problems.

Essential Responsibilities

• Performs visual field testing ordered by a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider.

• Completes patient assessments including preliminary and diagnostic testing including visual acuity, patient history, lensometry if needed and visual fields in accordance with established protocols.

• Prepare patients for testing by explaining the test, answering questions and ensuring the patient is comfortable.

• Ensure proper technique when administering tests.

• Provide accurate results to the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider to aid in diagnosing and managing various eye conditions.

• Clean equipment and testing areas

General Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: No experience required.

License/Certification/Registration: None required. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to operate and calibrate visual field instruments accurately.

• Proficiency with electronic health records and general computer skills.

• Understanding of HIPAA regulations.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to comfort patients.

• Ability to work within a team.

• Strong attention to detail.
