Senior Manager, Strategy and Impact Measurement

Summary:

The ASPCA is seeking a Senior Manager of Impact Measurement and Data Science to join our Strategy & Research team - a thoughtful and mission-driven team that collaborates across the organization to develop, refine, and execute the ASPCA's organization-wide priorities through strategy, impact measurement, research, and planning. Our work addresses a wide range of topics that directly impact our internal programs as well as the field of animal welfare.

Program Learning and Impact Measurement Focus

The Senior Manager of Impact Measurement and Data Science (IMDS) is responsible for the development and execution of strategies to evaluate various programs that support the ASPCA's goals to improve the lives of animals. The Senior Manager conducts in-depth studies of ASPCA programming to generate credible measures of the programming's current performance and to determine what efforts are most effectively and efficiently resulting in impact.

As a member of the Strategy & Research (S&R) team, working under the supervision of the Senior Director of Strategy, Research, and Impact Measurement and Data Science, the Senior Manager of IMDS coordinates data collection, monitors data quality, conducts data analyses, and creates data aggregations, reports and visualizations. This person also facilitates the interpretation and communication of findings in collaboration with program teams and members of S&R. In addition to strong program evaluation, research, and analytical skills, this position requires an individual with a collaborative work style and experience in data visualization.

This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Collaborative program evaluation

  • Develop and manage data collection, aggregation, reporting, and evaluation systems across departments at the ASPCA

  • Manage organization-wide data collection, the centralized database, as well as related data visualizations

  • Develop procedures for data input, data reporting, analysis, and integration

  • Collaborate with multiple internal and external partners to ensure work is executed on schedule and consistent with protocols to ensure data quality

  • Create documents for communicating data findings for multiple stakeholders

  • Guide the interpretation of research findings and their application to decision-making and messaging for ASPCA programs

Data communication and visualization

  • Identify opportunities for and build data visualizations that accurately and effectively communicate the data

  • Recommend data sources to be used in research activity or programmatic evaluations, and articulate their meaning

  • Conduct analyses of data to compare and evaluate various courses of action

Research support

  • Provide administrative support to other researchers, such as data management, cleaning, or data visualization

  • Analyze data and articulate findings

  • Conduct academic literature reviews

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred

  • 2 years' experience in program evaluation, including managing multiple simultaneous projects required

  • 2 years' experience using logic models required; experience developing logic models preferred

  • 2 years' experience using data visualization tools and platforms (for example, PowerBI, Airtable, Tableau, etc.) required

  • Experience in data management, including validating and manipulating data required; experience transferring data between systems a plus

  • Experience summarizing and reporting on data, including creating data visualizations and interpreting data findings, required

  • Experience using Airtable, Excel or a similar software program for data analysis required; at least one year of experience using Airtable for data analysis and data visualization highly preferred

  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple teams preferred

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to identify data sources for program evaluations or applied research and to assess the quality of these data sources

  • Must be a self-guided, creative, highly organized, and motivated individual requiring minimal supervision

  • Must be nimble and able to rapidly re-prioritize own work

  • Must be able to work confidently in a remote office

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time as needed

Compensation and Benefits:

The applicable target hiring range for this remote role is based on where the employee works, which, for remote roles, is the employee's primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor. We have organized the U.S. varying costs of labor index into three geographic zones. As a point of reference, below, we have included our ASPCA locations by geographic zone to illustrate what the hiring range would be in each of the following areas.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands, or budgeted amount for this role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.

  • Zone 1: $73,000 - $78,000annually

  • Zone 2: $80,000 - $85,000 annually

  • Zone 3: $88,000 - $93,000annually
