Assistant/Associate Professor, Center for Human Genetics and Genomics, NYU Grossman School of Medicine

NYU Langone Health System
United States, New York, New York
Nov 14, 2025

The Center for Human Genetics & Genomics (CHGG) at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, directed by Aravinda Chakravarti, invites applications for tenure-track positions at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels in human genetics and genomics. CHGG's mission is to develop a new science of human genetics that integrates computational, experimental, statistical, and clinical approaches to uncover the molecular bases of Mendelian and complex diseases.

We seek highly creative scientists with bold ideas who aim to move beyond current paradigms to address major unsolved problems in human genetics. We welcome both computational and experimental researchers whose work advances our understanding of human genetic variation and its consequences.

Examples of areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Comprehensive interpretation of sequence variation in telomere-to-telomere genomes.

  • Population genetic inference of sequence variation.

  • New approaches for studying the functional impact of genetic variation.

  • Genetic mechanisms of human diseases.

Successful candidates should have a strong record of scientific creativity and productivity, and are expected to establish an independent research program supported by external funding.

CHGG is part of a vibrant and collaborative genetics and genomics community at NYU, with close ties to the Institute for Systems Genetics, the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and the Center for Data Science. CHGG Faculty have facile access to a large and diverse patient population and an extensive set of core facilities for genomics and bioinformatics, including NYU Langone's BigPurple high-performance computing cluster. Its unified Epic EHR system spans over 320 clinical sites and exceeds 7 million patients, enabling exceptional opportunities to integrate genomic discoveries with large-scale clinical and population data. The school ranks 11th nationally in NIH funding and has more than doubled its research portfolio since 2017. In September 2024, for the third consecutive year, Vizient-the nation's largest healthcare performance improvement organization-ranked NYU Langone as the No. 1 comprehensive academic medical center.

Applicants from both biological and quantitative backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will have PhD or MD in a related field.

NYU Langone Healthis an equal opportunity employer and committed to inclusion in all aspects of recruiting and employment. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration.
