Job Summary:

The Certified Central Sterile Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that equipment consistently meets the highest quality and safety standards. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and adherence to protocols.

Responsibilities include receiving and processing incoming supplies and equipment, performing cleaning and sterilizing duties, and properly handling, processing, and storing essential medical instruments.

The technician is also responsible for monitoring sterilizer equipment to ensure it meets performance specifications, including inspection and documentation. Additionally, they prepare packs of supplies, and instruments in Central Sterile Supply.

Job Responsibilities:

Infection Control and Compliance_20%

Collect, receive, clean, disinfect, and decontaminate instruments, supplies, and equipment according to hospital policies, AORN recommendations, AAMI guidelines, and TJC requirements.

Follow established policies and procedures for Bloodborne Pathogens and Standard Precautions to reduce infection risks among patients and employees

Efficiency_20%

Scan barcodes to select the appropriate count sheet for trays and ensure each instrument is accounted for.

Select appropriate chemical indicators and wrapping methods based on the mode of sterilization.

Distribute supplies and equipment to hospital units in a timely manner.

Prioritize workload based on the needs of the operating room and hospital units.

Quality Assurance_20%

Disassemble, inspect, and restock instruments; select appropriate cleaning tools and detergents for manual decontamination.

Inspect surgical instruments and medical equipment for repair, replacement, and cleanliness; assemble, wrap, or containerize as needed.

Sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies as required; handle and store them appropriately.

Collect, receive, and scan dirty instruments and equipment from various hospital departments.

Communication_20%

Communicate with Operating Room staff and core techs to prioritize workload according to the needs of the operating room schedule.

Address problems with trays and contact O.R. resource staff and supply coordinator for resolution.

Other Duties as assigned_20%

Job Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

One (1) or more year of job related experience.

Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) and/or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) certification

Basic Life Support (BLS)- preferred
