Position Summary:
Under the direction of Assistant Vice President of Institutional Access, the Civil Rights Investigator and Intake Coordinator will play a significant role in conducting intake and assessment into reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, ADA compliance matters, and Title IX submitted by university students, employees and third parties. The Civil Rights Investigator and Intake Coordinator will serve as an investigator for formal grievance procedures associated with reports of discrimination and harassment and support the department's compliance with training and prevention programs.

Essential Functions:
-Facilitates the intake and complaint process in coordination with the Assistant Vice President by scheduling and conducting intake meetings.
-Evaluates case details to ensure appropriate delegation of investigations, accommodations, and referrals.
-Assists with the coordination of interim and supportive measures.
-Serves as a Lead or Co-Investigator, responsible for conducting investigations for complaints of discrimination under Titles IX, VII and VI, ADA, Section 504 Rehabilitation Act, and state discrimination, harassment, hostile environment and retaliation complaints.
-Prepares detailed investigation reports in a timely manner in accordance with NJIT policies and procedures.
-Maintains current knowledge of ADA/504; Titles IX, VII and VI; and other applicable federal and state laws to ensure compliance with related regulations.
-Maintains documentation and records of complaints/reports, including communication with reporting party(s), Complainants, Respondents, Responsible Employees, and third parties, and safeguards the confidentiality of the records.
-Ensures case management data and documentation of outreach, interim and support measures are up-to-date and maintained accurately.
-Assists the Assistant Vice President with the development, coordination, and facilitation of educational training and programs for the NJIT community.
-Partners with NJIT departments and key stakeholders to deliver training programs to key constituencies including but not limited to New Student Orientation, New Employee Onboarding, Residence Advisor training, Peer Mentor training, and Graduate Student training.
-Designs, creates, and updates marketing and training materials for the office.
-Establishes rapport with students and employees from a wide array of identities, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives to perform effectively in a diverse campus community.
-Serves on institutional committees as assigned related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct prevention.
-Special project management and implementation, and other functions as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
Education:
-Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
-Master's degree is preferred.

Experience:
-Minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment and/or sexual misconduct is required.
-Knowledge of best practices as they relate to institutions of higher education compliance with Titles VI, VII and IX, VAWA, ADA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is preferred.
-Experience in and awareness to the sensitivity required when interacting with and addressing the needs of a diverse community on sensitive topics.
-Ability to manage an ongoing and complex caseload.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Ability to maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community is required.
-Ability to maintain neutrality and work independently.

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is $70,000.00-$90,000.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
