Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Light Commercial Chiller Technician to join our Facilities team. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of light commercial chillers and associated HVAC systems across our facilities. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with air-cooled chillers (up to ~100 tons), split systems, pumps, and controls, and is committed to ensuring optimal system performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort.


Essential Duties

  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on light commercial chillers, air handlers, pumps, and related HVAC equipment.
  • Monitor and adjust control systems to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Maintain and repair piping, valves, insulation, and system components.
  • Collaborate with Facilities team members to support preventive maintenance programs.
  • Maintain accurate service records, logs, and reports using CMMS or other software tools.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Support seasonal startup/shutdown of equipment and respond to after-hours or emergency calls, as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with light commercial HVAC/chiller systems.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, especially with air-cooled chillers, closed loop hydronics, air-side components (VMA, FCU), and control systems.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems (e.g., Metasys, iVu) as a tool for troubleshooting.
  • Truck based service team covering multiple locations throughout the greater Houston area.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied conditions (indoors/outdoors, heights, confined spaces).
  • Self-starter with a service centric mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trade school or HVAC technical certification.
  • Experience in institutional or large commercial facility environments.
  • Working knowledge of energy efficiency practices and sustainability initiatives.
