As the Field Safety & Event Team Lead at PEMEX Deer Park, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of people, operations, and performance. You will lead a team of dedicated Field Safety Representatives to drive excellence in safety execution across daily operations, turnarounds, and significant site events. In this dynamic and prominent position, you’ll champion a proactive safety culture, strengthen critical control systems, and ensure that every activity, from confined space entry to complex shutdowns, is executed with precision, compliance, and care.

To succeed as a Field Safety & Event Team Lead, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or related field preferred, with at least 5 years of experience in protection, emergency response, or industrial operations.
  • Solid knowledge of OSHA (29 CFR Parts 1910 & 1926), with familiarity in DOT, USCG, EPA, TDSHS, TCEQ, and TGLO regulatory frameworks.
  • HAZWOPER certification required, with additional understanding of NFPA, API, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, data analysis, and documentation tools, with the ability to train others on safety applications and reporting.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation of safety meetings, training sessions, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement.

 

As a Field Safety & Event Team Lead, you will:

  • Lead and manage daily operations of the Field Safety team, assigning SME responsibilities and ensuring compliance with evolving regulations and best practices.
  • Coach and develop Field Safety Representatives through regular feedback, performance reviews, and ongoing accountability.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and Turnarounds leadership to proactively identify and resolve safety concerns.
  • Analyze safety performance data, monitor industry developments, and recommend improvements to enhance safety systems and culture.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive safety plans for all site events, including Turnarounds, ensuring regulatory alignment and risk mitigation.

PEMEX Deer Park is a highly complex refinery located 18 miles east of Houston in Deer Park, TX. It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas that operates across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing. The refinery’s rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crude oil, producing high-quality transportation fuels the world needs.
