Summary: Responsible for the daily operations of the department and the supervision of staff. Supervises and coordinates the daily technical tasks of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Licenses and Credentials: Certified Registered Central Service Technician [CRCST] - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required

Experience: Central Processing Sterilization Experience 3-5 years required and Supervisory Experience 3-5 years required

- Complete knowledge of clinical operations, hospital mission and goals, and human resources policies and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

* Coordinates and monitors schedules, payroll, and other unit-based systems to support patient care.

* Develops and maintains systems for collecting information to measure unit productivity.

* Monitors management reports on expenditures, reports findings to the Senior Director and Directors of Operations and initiates corrective actions as appropriate.

* Maintains hospital service standards, with particular attention to personal/behavioral conduct, teamwork, and patient-staff interactions.

Financial and Payroll Management

* Completes weekly payroll and enters data for schedules and actual staffing into the system.

* Assists with the collection and analysis of budget information.

Personnel and Records Management

* Maintains staff records including sick time, FMLA, per diem use, schedules, turnover, license renewal, in-services, competencies, and educational documentation.

* Oversees maintenance of confidential personnel records, including status changes, terminations, and requisitions.

* Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including Annual Infection Control, Fire and Safety, OSHA, and other mandates.

* Responsible for hiring, termination, and performance evaluations of all staff.

* Oversees and coordinates staff orientation, ensuring smooth onboarding and consistent processes.

Sterile Processing Oversight

* Provide leadership and supervision to the Central Sterile Processing (CSP) team, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment.

* Recruit, train and manage CSP staff, including technicians and support personals.

* Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure the cleanliness and sterility of medical instrumentation and equipment.

* Oversee the proper functioning and maintenance of sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and other sterilization devices.

* Manage and maintain the inventory of sterile supplies, instruments and equipment.

* Manage the budget for the CSP department, including personal cost, equipment purchases and supplies.

* Collaborate with surgical, medical, and nursing teams to ensure timely and accurate supply of sterile instruments.

* Performs other duties as assigned

Supply and Equipment Oversight

* Oversees inventory control, purchasing of supplies, and maintenance of capital equipment.

* Responsible for oversight of inventory control and purchases for DSU. This includes materials and equipment for 4 ORs, Anesthesia, OR Specialty Items, OR Tissue Bank and human tissue products, instrumentation, and all ambulatory clinic locations.

* Establishes and maintains par levels for supply items, ensuring audit trails for all ordered and received equipment.

* Ensures regulatory compliance by development and execution of policies that promote appropriate implant tracking and tissue storage methods.

* Coordinates all implant, supply and equipment recalls for the OR and ensures appropriate communications to the vendor and Risk Management as necessary.

* Ensures equipment is safe, operational, and in proper working condition in collaboration with other departments.

* Works with the patient care team to evaluate and introduce new products, supplies, and technology.

* Monitors and rectifies vendor compliance, performance or non-performance and conducts periodic business review meetings. Directs interactions with vendors to ensure a compliant and safe environment.

* Partners with OR Billing team to ensure supply charge accuracy.

Quality and Compliance

* Collaborates with the Senior Director and Directors of Operations to ensure the unit is regulatory-ready at all times.

* Participates in quality improvement projects and contributes to development of systems and policies that improve unit efficiency and patient care outcomes.

* Develops and maintains systems to ensure confidentiality and integrity of patient records in compliance with hospital standards.

* Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory agencies but not limited to The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA, and other accrediting bodies.

Communication and Special Projects

* Creates and implements systems for filing and distribution of unit communications (policy changes, announcements, staff meeting minutes, bulletin boards, and email lists).

* Produces and maintains management data related to operational needs and projects.

* Completes assigned special projects and develops initiatives to enhance operations.

Other Duties

* Performs other related duties as assigned to support the effective and efficient functioning of the unit.
