Inova Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking an experienced advanced practice provider for a full-time position with our inpatient Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology Team.

Thoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider Job Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with surgeons and interventional pulmonologists to assess and manage the care of acutely injured or critically ill surgical patients in the inpatient setting.

* Management of patients in the emergency department, intensive care unit, intermediate care unit, and floor.

* Administer medications and treatments.

* Monitor patients' vital signs, laboratory values, and response to treatment.

* Assist or perform appropriately privileged procedures, such as, thoracentesis, pleural catheter placement and removal.

* Obtain and maintain advanced trauma life support.

* Provide education to patients and their families on the plan of care and post-operative management.

* Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status and changes in condition.

* Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects.

* Maintain accurate and complete patient records.

* Rotating days with possible nights and weekends.

* Opportunities to first assist in the operating room.



Minimum Qualifications:

* Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program

* Board Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification. Employees must maintain certification requirements.

* ACLS Certification for physician assistants, ACLS and BLS certification for nurse practitioners

* Current Virginia medical license

* Current DEA number National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

* Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Physician Associate

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Thoracic Surgery or Pulmonology setting

* Experience in the operating room
