GENERAL PURPOSE

This role applies stains, sealers, and topcoats to manufactured wood products to meet or exceed quality, safety, and reliability standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring exceptional finish quality through expert shading, spraying, and surface preparation. The Senior Finisher also supports process improvements, coaches team members, and helps maintain a safe, efficient finishing environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate daily workflow in the finishing area following defined processes and production schedules.
Inspect and prepare finishing materials, agitators, and drums to ensure consistent quality before spraying begins.
Set up, clean, and maintain spray booths, filters, rollers, and support equipment.
Apply stains, toners, sealers, and polyurethane topcoats to achieve specified color, coverage, and finish standards.
Match stain shades accurately using sample boards and adjust as needed for consistency.
Clean and maintain spray guns, including needle/tip maintenance and fluid changes.
Determine proper application rates to achieve required coating thickness and prevent defects (e.g., runs, uneven coverage).
Sand and tack components between coats as required.
Inspect finished components, identify flaws, and make necessary corrections to meet quality expectations.
Follow proper documentation, recycling, and disposal procedures in accordance with environmental and safety standards.
Read and interpret drawings, routings, and shop orders related to finishing specifications.
Approve stain matches and finished product appearance prior to release.
Coach and support less experienced team members on finishing techniques and safety practices.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts using Lean Manufacturing principles.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to achieve production and business goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency

5-7 years of progressive experience in wood finishing, including shading, sealing, and spraying.
Prior experience in furniture or component finishing preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Proficient in all three disciplines: shading, sealing applying topcoat and waterline processes which include shading, sealing, and painting.

Proficient in all finishing disciplines: shading, sealing, topcoating, and waterline processes.
Skilled in spray gun operation, sanding, and surface preparation.
Strong attention to detail and color accuracy.
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and safety data sheets (SDS).
Team-oriented with effective communication and coaching skills.
Safety-focused and environmentally responsible.
Capable of working overtime as production needs require.
