Electrical Test Technicians

Your main responsibilities


  • Reads test schedule, work orders, wiring diagrams, schematics, data sheets, C.O.E., test manuals, performance specifications to ascertain testing procedure and equipment to be used.






  • Connects unit to be tested to equipment and instruments such as, hi-pot tester, ohmmeter, voltmeter and ammeter.






  • Reads dials that indicate electronic characteristics, such as voltage, frequency, distortion induction and capacitance.






  • Traces circuits of defective units, using knowledge of electronic theory and electronic test equipment to locate defects, such as shorts, or faulty components.






  • Replaces defective wiring and components, using hand tools and soldering iron or records defects on tag attached to unit and returns it to production department for repair.






  • Performs functional tests of systems, subassemblies and parts under complete operating sequence from diagrams and test specifications.






  • Examines unit visually for physical defects, such as broken wire, excess solder, soldering connections and any lodged foreign matter.






  • Records type and quantity of defects for record purposes. Issues defect reports as required.






  • Assist in other testing assignments equal to or less than the scope of this description.






  • Conducts audits to insure compliance to the drawing and specification requirements.






  • Perform preventive maintenance on electronic control and mechanical equipment.

Education/Experience:


High school graduate or equivalent plus successful completion of two years technical training in electronic technology from an accredited school or equivalent, and must satisfactorily complete the Electronics Technician Examination. Minimum of two years experience operating various testing apparatus such as, but not limited to, ohmmeter, voltmeter, hi-pot tester, ammeter, wave tek generator, oscilloscopes and various test stands and/or fixtures. Educational exposure to these instruments will satisfy experience requirements.



Language Ability:


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



Math Ability:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.



Reasoning Ability:


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.



Computer Skills:


To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and company adopted software programs.



Certificates and Licenses:


No certifications required.



Travel:


Limited (<5%) domestic travel may be required.
