Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Specialist, Simulation.
The Simulation Operations Specialist plays a key technical and operational support role in the delivery of high-quality healthcare skills session experiences within the Surgical Skills Lab. Under the direction of the Surgical Skills Lab Director, this position supports the planning, setup, execution, and breakdown of simulation-based education designed to enhance the clinical competencies of medical trainees. The Specialist collaborates closely with the surgical skills team and faculty to integrate best practices, technologies, and equipment into simulation scenarios.
Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with faculty and surgical skills lab staff to develop, implement, and support simulation-based educational experiences using advanced technologies and realistic scenarios.
- Support the labs accreditation efforts by preparing and maintaining documentation as required.
- Coordinate and maintain skills lab records including equipment logs, inventory, and data management systems.
- Assist with scheduling of skills sessions, rooms, equipment, and staff resources.
- Operate and maintain a variety of skills lab technologies, including audiovisual systems.
- Assist in developing patient case scenarios, skills session programming, and educational materials.
- Manage setup and teardown of training environments, including medical supplies, hospital equipment, and AV support.
- Orient students, faculty, and external users to the skills labs policies, procedures, and technologies.
- Support the delivery of training and best practices in skills lab operations and technology.
- Provide technical support during skills lab sessions, including operating simulation and AV software.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving equipment and simulation software.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, including regular cleaning, software updates, and minor repairs.
- Coordinate with IT and vendors for hardware/software upgrades and equipment maintenance.
- Monitor and document usage data, evaluations, and contact hours through simulation center management systems.
- Provide demonstrations and tours of the skills lab to stakeholders and visitors.
- Stay current with trends in simulation-based education and recommend emerging technologies for lab enhancement.
- Network with skills laboratories at other institutions to learn/share best practices
- Provide onsite assistance to students, residents and faculty using the Lab for practice outside of formal training sessions.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree. Experience supporting healthcare simulation. Preferred Qualifications: Experience operating data capture and AV systems used in simulation environments. Knowledge of audiovisual software and equipment including digital cameras. Familiarity with healthcare simulation software and hardware systems Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
