7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered to be a fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be given the opportunity to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components in assigned shop.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Essential Job Duties

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment associated with the heating and cooling hydronic system(piping, pumps, boilers, chillers and cooling towers).
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings do no deteriorate.
  • Use electrical test devices.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

Other Work Responsibilities

  • Act as a Journey level worker and provide assistance with other facility maintenance technicians.
  • Work with supervision minimal or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
  • Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency. Associates degree from an accredited institution preferred in HVAC
  • 2-4 years' experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in chillers/cooling towers.
  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, and willingness to learn new programs.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
Valid drivers license is Required
Possess EPA 608 certification
or must be able to obtain within 90 days of hire paid for by the candidate.
