HOW YOU WILL MAKE HISTORY...

The Research & Development Scientist I role will support the Meals & Beverages Front of Funnel Innovation team. This role involves supporting the ideation and development of horizon 1 and 2 innovation for brands across the Meals and Beverages division, focusing on new product designs from concept to final design.

The individual will be responsible for the coordination and execution of product development. They must possess a strong knowledge of technical principles and product commercialization processes, utilizing this knowledge to design new products that maximize value for both the company and the customer. This involves conducting market research, identifying customer needs, and translating these insights into innovative product solutions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO...

  • Project Execution (70%)
  • Project Planning & Management (10%)
  • Communication (20%)
  • Working with the technical and business teams to identify and define product concepts and establish project objectives.
  • Lead the development and execution of project timelines, which includes contingency planning.
  • Leveraging vendor capabilities, where appropriate, to expand formulation possibilities, research new ingredients, product technologies, and/or processes to develop unique and innovative products to increase speed to market. Additionally, utilizingartificial intelligence (AI)to analyze data, predict trends
  • Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, good communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Developing prototypes to support concept and ideation exploratory work.
  • Formulating products for scale-up and reformulating based upon consumer direction.
  • Conducting trials in the Pilot plant or manufacturing facilities to assess manufacturing capability and consumer acceptability.
  • Interfacing product design with various nutritional guidelines and cost constraints.
  • Working with Process Development and Supply Chain to identify internal or external manufacturing needs.
  • Demonstrating flexibility and agility to react rapidly to changes in project scope.
  • With guidance, determine the root cause problem and execute effectively on solutions.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH...

The individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D brand leads, marketing, sales, and manufacturing, to ensure that products are developed in alignment with business objectives and customer expectations. In this role, the scientist will report to the Director of Growth Office Meals & Beverages R&D, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any challenges that arise during the development process.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE (MUST HAVES)...

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of ingredients and food systems.
  • Knowledge of experimental design.
  • Computer skills, including basic fluency in Microsoft Office, database, and internet tools.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and seek creative solutions.
  • Good oral and written communications as well as presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel on occasion (up to 30%), which may include the following: Headquarters (HQ) Office, Research Kitchen, Pilot Plant, and Manufacturing Plants (Campbell's Company, co-manufacturers, and vendors).

IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAVE (PREFERRED SKILLS)...

  • Master of Science in Food Science or related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
  • Skills in commercializing products/processes in the manufacturing environment are desired.
  • Ability to work with support groups and function effectively in a team environment.
  • Highly effective team-player, willing to contribute within a wide variety of areas.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills.

Working Conditions:

  • A significant portion of the job is in the thermal production environment; thus, the work exposes the employee to heat and hot food products, coolers, and freezers requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to walk/stand up at times for up to of the workday.
  • Physical ability to handle weights of up to approximately thirty pounds.
  • Handle allergens including dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, and other food ingredient chemicals and allergens while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Willingness and ability to taste and evaluate a wide range of food products and ingredients.

Compensation and Benefits:

The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between

$73,500-$105,700

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
